Yarn Food Cotton Wash is expertly designed for yarn crafters to clean, nourish and preserve cotton and plant-based fibres and their blends naturally.

Lock in the love that you put into your handmades by giving them the care and nourishment they crave. We’ve added cotton milk to our natural no-rinse soak formula to feed moisture back into your cotton- and plant fibre garments made from linen, bamboo, hemp or other plant-based fibres.

Make your precious pieces stay soft, in shape and last longer.

IDEAL FOR WET BLOCKING Its yarn-specific formula
helps plant fibre stitches relax and open up to blossom. Watch your patterns pop and achieve a finished and professional look every time.

THE FINISHING TOUCH TO HANDMADE GIFTS Add that extra bit of love to your handmade gifts for friends and family by treating them to a Yarn Food Mini so that your carefully crafted garment will last them longer.

EFFICIENT NATURAL FORMULA WITH UP TO 20 WASHES The plant-derived, dye-, phosphate-, and sodium laurel sulphate-free, biodegradable and non-bio detergent formula only needs 5ml, or 3 pumps, per wash which makes 100 ml go a long way.

PUMP BOTTLE FOR EASY MEASURE AND NO WASTE The pump lid makes dispensing small amounts of natural handwash detergent clean and easy. No more gloopy caps or fingers, just 3 pumps give you a clean and accurate measure every time. Say no to waste and yes to the planet.

PERFECT TRAVEL DETERGENT Made to fit in your wash bag, just add 3 pumps of Yarn Food Cotton Wash to a water-filled sink wherever you are, leave 20 minutes to soak, squeeze out water, lay out flat or hang to dry. No machine or effort needed. You’re on holidays after all.

SOURCED LOCALLY As a family business based in the British countryside Yarn Food know what community means and care greatly to preserve it. This is why they source all their ingredients locally from small businesses.

Yarn Information

Please note that while I do my best to ensure product photos accurately reflect the colours, they may appear differently depending on your screen or device settings.

I hand-dye all yarn in small batches, therefore slight variations between skeins are to be expected.

I recommend alternating skeins every couple of rows if using more than one skein.

When buying multiple skeins of the same colourway, I will always do my best to try to select skeins dyed in the same dye batch.

Care Instructions

Cool gentle hand wash with a mild wool detergent is recommended.

Lay flat to dry

While I take care to rinse out any excess dye, you may notice a slight colour bleed during the first wash – this is normal particularly with more saturated colourways.

It is recommend to wash dark colours separately or wash a swatch before using dark and light colours together.

Allergy Information

We are a dog-friendly home; however, all yarn is dyed in my utility room and then twisted, labelled, and stored in a dedicated home office/storeroom where pets are not allowed. That said, please note that yarn is briefly transferred between these spaces during the process.

I use professional acid dyes in my dyeing process, along with food-grade citric acid and, occasionally, white vinegar for sparkly yarns. After dyeing, the yarn is washed using Eucalan delicate wash, which contains lanolin and essential oils.

Ethically sourced yarns

Mulesing free
All our yarns are ethically sourced from farms that do not practice mulesing, with a strong commitment to high animal welfare standards.

Superwash Treatment
Superwash wool is treated with a resin coating to help prevent felting and shrinkage during washing. At Hinchcraft, we only use yarns processed by reputable companies that follow strict environmental standards, ensuring responsible and sustainable production.
